While I was in Italy at the end of October, I got to visit the stunning Duomo di Siena (Cathedral of Siena), which is home of the Piccolomini Library.  Inside the library, which was painted in beautiful frescoes in the year 1502 in honor of Pope Pius II, we got to see old manuscripts in display, vibrant paintings on every surface, and a copy of The Three Graces sculpture.

It’s amazing how colorful and perfect the library still is all these centuries later, and I am glad that I got to see it in person.

Irish Lit for a Traveling Girl

I have a trip to Ireland coming up in three months, and I need some suggestions for books to get me in the mood.  Bring me your fiction, your nonfiction, your travel guides…you get the picture.

Already on my to-read-before-the-trip-list:

  • 'Tis, by Frank McCourt
  • Round Ireland with a Fridge, by Tony Hawks
  • Booking Passage, by Thomas Lynch
  • Celtic Fairy Tales, compiled by Joseph Jacobs
  • New Dubliners, by Oona Frawley
  • The Ginger Man, by J.P. Donleavy

What else should I check out?
