Resource Thursday: Literature-Map

Today’s website is a quick and easy way to recommend authors (especially for folks who might be in a hurry).  Literature-Map is a tool that literally maps out authors who share certain characteristics that readers might enjoy.

To use it, you just type the name of an author you like into the box and, voila!, it maps out a web of other related authors that you might also enjoy. The closer an author’s name is to the one you typed in, the more they have in common.  As an example, I typed in one of my favorite writers, Sarah Vowell, and it made this for me:

Sure enough, some of my other favorites popped up on the map: Bill Bryson, Dave Barry, Augusten Burroughs, and Davis Sedaris.

Literature-Map is quick and fun and visual and seems to generally hit the mark in terms of author read-alikes.  Plus, it always seems to impress my customers when I bust it out to show them, and that’s not a bad thing either!
